An uplifting day of music with inspirational Cumbrian singer / song-writer Dave Camlin, sharing songs of hope and harmony.
“The love child of James Taylor and Tim Booth” (Ed Boyd, Lunasa) Dave Camlin is a prolific musician from the Lake District, performing solo and with many bands including folk rockers Tryckster and a cappella wizards Mouthful. A singer / song-writer with an extensive catalogue of songs - from intimate reflections on life’s ups and downs through to rabble-rousing anthems for the modern age - Dave is a captivating performer, inviting you to think, to feel, to laugh, to dance!
Somewhat of a polymath, Dave is a Professer of Music at Trinity Laban conservatoire in London, an internationally-renowned author and researcher, and a passionate community musician, leading choirs, running workshops, promoting local creativity and organising music festivals including the boutique Cumberlandia festival in west Cumbria. All of his diverse experience is channelled into his approach to music making, seeing it as a potent way of building connections between us, and imagining a better future together. Music is a human resource as old as the species itself, and harnessing its power can help us live more hopefully in the world.
On this solo visit to Newton Stewart, Dave will lead an accessible singing workshop in the afternoon, where everyone is very welcome! Bring your voice in whatever state you find it, and prepare to experience the collective joy of singing together in harmony. No previous experience necessary, and learning material mainly by ear, so no need to be able to read music, although scores will be available for anyone who’d like them.
